Logan County Farm Bureau Hosts 2023 Annual Meeting
The Logan County Farm Bureau held its annual meeting Saturday, September 9, at the Logan County Extension Office with 168 members and guests in attendance. The Logan County Cattlemen’s Association prepared and served a ribeye steak sandwich dinner for the event. Logan County Farm Bureau Vice president Thomas Poole presided over the meeting and gave the invocation. The pledge of allegiance to the American flag was led by Logan County FFA President Abigail Walpole.
Russell Poore introduced special guests including KFB 1st Vice President Eddie Melton, Circuit Judge of Logan & Todd Counties Joe Hendricks, Vickie Bryant, Monroe County, KFB Area 2 Program Director Stacy Sipes, KFB State Director Larry Clark, Logan County Sheriff Stephen Stratton, Logan county District 5 Magistrate Ann Crawford, and Logan County Property Valuation Administrator Timothy Rainwaters.
Catherine Poole introduced the Outstanding Youth and Variety Contestants. The male outstanding youth winner was Colby Collins. Klay Van Sickle was the male runner up. Hannah Hallman was the female outstanding youth winner. Cate Shoemake was the variety winner, and Heaven Oliver was the variety runner up.
This year’s Institute of Future Agriculture Leaders participants were Abigail Walpole and Felix Fernandez. Abigail Walpole gave a summary of her experience at IFAL.
The 2023 Logan County Farm Bureau Scholarship Winners of $1,000 each were: Jenna Coles, Whitley Robey and Brock Repsher.
The following resolution was approved and will be sent to KFB for policy development: “We oppose gene therapy vaccines being introduced in the food supply without providing informed consent to the consumer. If a product is known to be a gene therapy product, the product shall be conspicuously labeled with the words ‘Gene Therapy Product’”.
Doug Milliken presented the nominating committee report. The following officers were elected for 2024: President, Grant Hildabrand; 1st Vice President, Thomas Poole; 2nd Vice President, Wesley Estes; Treasurer, Jeremy Robertson; Women’s Chairman, Catherine Poole; Women’s Co-Chairman, Karen Milliken; Young Farmer’s Chairman, Stetson Coursey.
The board of directors for 2024 are: John Alcott, Jerry Hughes, Carrell Hughes, Patsy Poore, Thomas Poole, Ray Hughes, Jeremy Robertson, Tabitha Robertson, JayPublishing Campbell, Trisha Campbell, Brandon Robey, Paul Gripshover, Bobby Dawson, Richard Moore, Jennifer Ferris, Grant Hildabrand, Dwight Grise, Russell Poore, Doug Milliken, Wesley Estes, Karen Milliken, Morgan Estes, Gary Hendricks, Lilly Hunter, Colton Hunter, Catherine Poole, Stetson Coursey, Kristin Hildabrand and Abigail Walpole.
KFB 1st Vice President Eddie Melton presented Russell and Patsy Poore a KFB “Legacy Farm” award for Poore’s Nursery & Farm. This is an honor recognizing the farm’s long-standing commitment and significant contributions to the local community.
The Farm Bureau Scholarship Fund received $520 in donations for next year’s scholarships.
The KFB State Annual Meeting will be held at the Galt House in Louisville, Nov. 29-Dec. 2, 2023.
