Market Closes - April 15, 2015
Posted on Apr 15, 2015Cattle futures closed strongly higher, added to Tuesday’s gains, lifted by higher beef values and optimism for fed cattle price this week. Choice up 2.35 at 260.80; Select up 1.80 at 251.22
Lean Hog futures closed sharply lower with the June LH contract ending LIMIT DOWN. With the April LH contract expiring today, the deferred LH contracts’ huge premium to cash hog prices apparently encouraged aggressive selling which was further encouraged as prices broke below key moving averages. In contrast to futures, cash hog and pork prices improved today. FOB Plant Pork closed up .81 at 67.29.
