Market Closes - November 17, 2014
Posted on Nov 17, 2014The day’s lows for corn, beans and wheat mostly came in the 830-900 am CT period following release of the weekly export shipments report that was disappointing for corn and wheat. Corn and wheat futures’ attempts to rally off those lows were limited to about a nickel. Wheat was hit harder than corn given that last week’s strong futures rally wasn’t supported by the export report. Outside markets weighed on the CBOT with a stronger US dollar and lower crude oil prices.
HARVEST COMPLETION Corn: 89% vs 90% year ago and 88% on average Soybean: 94% vs 94% year ago and 96% average
WINTER WHEAT CONDITION Good/Excellent: 60% vs 63% year ago Poor/V.Poor: 6% vs 7% year ago
Cattle futures closed moderately higher on midday strength in boxed beef and last week’s improvement in futures and cash cattle price (mostly $170-172). Beef sustained its value through the afternoon with Choice closing up 2.11 at 254.27 and Select gaining 1.74 to 240.03.
Lean Hog futures closed pit trading with most contracts higher, but prices softened somewhat in afternoon electronic trading. Still the December LH contract has closed up for 8 straight days. The Pork cutout ended near unchanged even with a 4% drop in the belly value.
