CBOT futures closed markedly lower again today as the funds continue selling amid favorable weather and hurricane-delayed export activity at the US Gulf.
Cattle futures closed mostly higher with feeders benefitting from falling corn prices. However, the boxed beef market has been weakening too. Choice beef fell 3.66 to 338.45 and Select lost 4.46 to 307.57. Cash trade has been light at an average price of $124/cwt live and $203/cwt dressed.
Lean hog futures closed mostly higher led by the nearby October contract. LH found some support from firm cash hog prices even as pork cutouts fell. FOB Plant Pork closed down 2.47 at 106.54. Loin value dropped 9%; ribs were down 11% and ham value fell over 5%.
