Market Closes - September 7, 2016
Posted on Sep 7, 2016CBOT futures closed higher on strong fund buying. Futures were led higher by soybean meal and soybeans on strong export sales. Soybean, meal and soyoil are all above the key 200-day moving averages now. Short-covering lifted corn and wheat futures.
Cattle futures finally turned around after 4 days of sharp losses, as traders booked their profits in an oversold market. October LC had fallen to over $9/cwt discount to last week’s cash price. Boxed beef values were mixed with Choice up 0.37 at 190.65; Select down 2.87 at 183.66.
Lean Hog futures closed strongly higher in sympathy with the rally in cattle futures. Nearby LH futures closed above Friday’s closing prices. FOB Plant Pork closed down .33 at 79.80.

Compared to last Tuesday steer calves sold 2.00 to 4.00 lower with light demand. Heifer calves sold 5.00 to 6.00 lower with light demand. Quality was good through attractive. Slaughter cows 5.00 to 7.00 lower and slaughter bulls 4.00 lower with moderate demand.
