The corn and soy complex futures contracts closed sharply lower on profit-taking on forecasts for some rain in South America and a lack of export sales announcements this morning.  Cattle futures closed lower with live cattle suffering the biggest losses.  Lean Hog futures closed slightly lower and mid-range.

CBOT futures closed mostly higher as many corn, bean and wheat contracts traded new highs. Cattle futures closed higher with live cattle supported by higher cash prices and firm boxed beef. Lean hog futures closed higher, supported by higher pork cutouts and LH futures discount to the cash market.

Grain and soy complex futures closed strongly higher but well off the day’s highs.  Live cattle edged higher while feeder cattle futures were hit hard by rising CBOT futures.  Lean hog futures closed higher with the nearby October and December LH posting the best gains.

CBOT futures closed mixed with wheat making the best gains. Cattle futures closed slightly higher on optimism for the cash fed market. Lean hog futures also closed slightly higher on a sharply higher pork cutout.
