The University of Kentucky Extension Service is exploring ways to better serve the equine industry across the state.  Equine specialist Dr. Robert Coleman says the University will gather feedback from extension agents and other stakeholders during two meetings planned this week in Eastern and Western Kentucky.

CBOT futures closed steady in corn to mostly higher in the other contracts. Futures rallied early morning on ideas China was buying soybeans, but without confirmation, traders turned sellers.  Cattle futures closed higher and near the day’s highs. Lean Hog futures closed slightly higher as prices recovered from Tuesday’s sharp selloff.

CBOT futures closed mostly lower ahead of Tuesday’s USDA WASDE report. A strong dollar and sharply lower energy futures added to the pressure. Live Cattle closed mixed and Feeder Cattle ending higher. Live cattle were supported by firmer cash trade on Friday, trading around $119/cwt, and by higher boxed beef values last Friday and again today.

Kentucky Farm Bureau Announces Emerald Sponsorship for 2019 4-H Emerald Gala

Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) is proud to announce its Emerald Sponsorship for the 2019 4- H Emerald Gala. The Emerald Sponsorship is the top commitment available for the gala that showcases 4-H Emerald Award Winners as well as the 4-H program in Kentucky. Funding for the sponsorship is provided from both Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation and Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance.

CBOT futures closed lower but mid to high range. On the positive side, the corn and soybean futures still have their chart UP GAPS open.  Cattle futures closed lower with Live Cattle settling mid-range.  Lean Hog futures also closed lower with the nearby December LH contract taking the biggest hit.

Drew and Liz White from Union County say they are excited about representing Kentucky Farm Bureau in the Outstanding Young Farm Family Competition at the American Farm Bureau Meeting in January in New Orleans.  The White’s talk about winning the state competition, the importance of their farm and the legacy that they are carrying to the next generation.

First District Congressman James Comer and United States Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell say the 2018 Farm Bill will be a win for Kentucky Agriculture.  Congressman Comer and Senator McConnell discussed what is in the Farm Bill with Kentucky Farm Bureau members during the final day of the 99th Annual Meeting December 1.
