The most recent Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) Marketbasket Survey indicates a slight decrease to the overall cost of food in the fourth quarter of 2018. However, the average marketbasket price showed an overall increase for the year, going from $115.07 in 2017 to $116.92 in 2018. The final 2018 survey is still lower than the final marketbasket of 2016 which was $118.87.

The grain and soy futures closed narrowly mixed on a lack of fundamental news.   Cattle futures closed moderately higher after opening this morning slightly lower.  Lean Hog futures closed slightly lower through the August LH contract.

CBOT futures closed a little higher with the MGE spring wheat contract leading the way. Most contracts opened Wednesday evening about even, but futures rallied at various times in today’s trading. Cattle futures closed lower, making for a 3-day decline which started with the bearish price reversal on Monday.

Kentucky Farm Bureau President Mark Haney says more than 400 Kentuckians will be attending the American Farm Bureau meeting January 11 through the 16^th.  Haney talks with host Alan Watts about the celebration, who will be attending and the contest that Kentuckians will be competing in.

The American Farm Bureau annual meeting will take place this weekend and early next week in New Orleans.  Heather Geiske with American Farm Bureau Federation says this year’s meeting will feature members from across the country that will gather to celebrate the impact of Agriculture.
