Market Closes - August 20, 2018

CBOT futures closed mostly steady, but wheat futures crashed. Corn and soybean futures were pressured by weekend rainfall. Cattle futures closed mostly lower despite a second straight day of stronger boxed beef values.  Lean Hog futures closed lower with the nearby October down a large 2.12/cwt, the result of profit-taking.

Mr. Drew Graham was appointed as Executive Vice President for the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation effective October 1. In his new role, working in collaboration with the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, Drew will provide leadership and direction in all Federation operations, financial resources, and programs and services that directly benefit Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation.

Market Closes - August 15, 2018

CBOT futures closed mostly lower with wheat and soybean meal leading the way lower.  The major fundamental factors include large U.S. crops, foreign demand reduced by the tariff war, and a strong US Dollar weighing on exports. Cattle futures closed slightly higher and mid-range.

Kentucky 4-H members have been competing for top honors at the state fair and visiting Cloverville to see what they won for more than fifty years.  State 4-H Marketing and Public Relations Specialist Kim Leger says Cloverville has a new look and is located near the original home in Ag Land in South Wing A.

A little auctioneer with a big voice will sell the 2018 Grand Champion Kentucky Country Ham at the Kentucky Farm Bureau Country Ham Breakfast Thursday morning at the State Fair.  Leon Shirk, who sells produce four days a week and has his own auction and real estate business, talks with host Alan Watts about selling the ham.
