Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue says President Donald Trump has a strategy for dealing with trade and has authorized him to provide resources for farmers affected by trade negotiations. Secretary Perdue met with farmers and agriculture leaders from around the state during a stop at Hinton Mills in Mays Lick Thursday, April 5th.

CBOT futures closed lower today. CBOT futures couldn’t benefit from the stronger energy futures and weak US dollar. Cattle futures closed mostly higher after a day with narrower trading ranges.

Three members of Congress including Kentucky’s James Comer, Missouri’s Jason Smith and Tennessee’s David Kustoff recently held a river industry infrastructure discussion in Paducah. Local and regional stakeholders, including those from the agriculture sector attended and talked about the importance of river transportation in an area heavily dependent on it.

CBOT futures closed narrowly mixed following today’s USDA WASDE report which didn’t have any material surprises. Cattle futures opened higher but approached the day’s lows mid-morning. Except for the nearby April LC and FC contracts, futures closed steady or lower.

Corn and soybeans closed higher, while wheat jumped over 3 percent. Wheat was supported by short-covering by the spec funds in light of the unfavorable weather in wheat country. Cattle futures closed mostly lower and at the low end of the day’s trading ranges.
