First Tax Reform in More Than 30 Years Passes Congress

For the first time in more than a generation, tax reform legislation has been passed by Congress and recently signed by the President. The long awaited bill has been one of the top priorities for the administration over the past year. Farm Bureau policy at both the state and national level has called for tax reform for a number of years, as well.

December 28, 2017 Legislative Report No. 1 - 2018 Kentucky General Assembly

The 2018 Session of the Kentucky General Assembly is set to begin on January 2 and run through Wednesday, March 28. The General Assembly will then recess for a ten-day veto period which is scheduled to begin on March 29, and the legislature is scheduled to adjourn sine die on April 13.

President Donald Trump will be among the speakers at the 99th Annual American Farm Bureau Convention in Nashville.  Kentucky Farm Bureau President Mark Haney, who also serves on the American Farm Bureau board member, talks about the importance of discussing agriculture issues with the President, some of the key issues that needed to addressed and discussions concerning the 2018 Farm Bill during the meeting.

Former Kentucky Farm Bureau President Sam Moore was honored during the 2017 Farm Bureau Annual Meeting for 17 years of service on the Kentucky Ag Development Board by President Mark Haney and Governor’s Office of Ag Policy Director Warren Beeler.  Moore talks about the impact of the Ag Development Board, the mission of those who serve on the board and provided some wisdom for success.

Collaborative Effort Brings Meal Kits to Kentucky Just in Time for Christmas

Thanks to a joint effort between the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA), the state Finance and Administration Cabinet, the federal government, and Kentucky food banks, 314,496 meal kits from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were shipped to Kentucky and used to help feed the hungry.

Price action continued the pattern seen Tuesday and Wednesday – soybeans dropping and corn/wheat rising. Market factors remain the same – beneficial South American weather as well as unfavorable weather and soil moisture in the Plains.  Cattle futures closed slightly higher, correcting part of yesterday’s losses.
