Soybean growers are needed soon for a research project on weed resistance in beans. UK postdoctoral scholar, Jerrod Penn, will be coordinating the project and says it will be done in two phases; a brief survey, and later just before harvest time they’re seeking photos of weeds in the field. Participation could benefit local FFA chapters.

Association president Pat Clements talks about the two-part contribution and says the center is already beginning to attract top notch researchers to the facility.

Murray State University’s Hutson School of Agriculture is hosting the Kentucky Farm Bureau’s Emerging Agricultural Enterprises Committee tomorrow at the university’s Bill Cherry Expo Center. The ag school’s dean, Dr. Tony Brannon, is featured talking about this event and the Hemp Idea Festival Field Day that will immediately follow.

Corn and soybean futures closed moderately lower in response to a bearish USDA Crop Production Report. USDA’s estimated yields and production increased from last month’s estimates. Cattle futures closed lower on profit-taking as October LC futures were a couple dollars above recent cash trades.

CBOT futures closed mixed with minimal changes as traders prepared for tomorrow’s USDA crop reports. Cattle futures closed mostly higher with little news to move the market. Lean Hog futures closed lower on trade expectations for weaker cash markets.
