A feature story on Ronnie and Clara Patton the last dairy farmers in Laurel County who’ve now added a cheese making business to keep the dairy going. Clara says that KCARD was instrumental in their progress and that they are now making three types of cheddar along with a Colby and a gouda. And their Wildcat Mountain Cheese is also on Facebook.

A major grant has been approved for a permanent farmers’ market pavilion to be built in downtown Mt. Sterling to give those farmers a new home and to introduce more local citizens to eating fresh, locally grown produce. Mt. Sterling mayor, Gary Williamson, is featured.

“The bees are biting back,” and we’re going to spread that trait to bee hives across Kentucky to stop the loss of hives from the varroa mite; that’s the intent of Dorothey Morgan, President of the Kentucky Queen Bee Breeders Association. A new trait “mite biting” trait has emerged among some hives and efforts are underway to spread that to hives throughout Kentucky.
