The Kroger Company has been named 2016’s Agribusiness of the Year by the Agribusiness Industry Network.  The regional food retailer was cited for its work in boosting the Kentucky Proud program, working with Kentucky farmers and processors in showcasing those products. In its first two years those sales have grown to about $1 million per week.

A preview of the 97th annual meeting of the Kentucky Farm Bureau which runs this Wednesday through Saturday at the Galt House in Louisville.  Farm group executive vice president, David Beck, says guest speakers will cover topics from the economic outlook for ag to the political landscape ahead, as voting delegates set the organization’s policy course for 2017.

CBOT closed mostly steady to higher with soybean meal futures leading the market higher. Weakness in soybean oil limited gains in soybeans. Like Monday, Live Cattle went up and Feeder Cattle went down – if only by small amounts. Live Cattle found support from higher boxed beef values.  Lean Hog futures tried to move higher at the opening bell but quickly failed.

CBOT futures closed higher, led by a sharp move up in the soy complex.   Corn futures gained better than one percent with support from the soy complex, a weaker US Dollar and strong weekly export shipments(inspections).  Live Cattle futures closed slightly higher but well off the day’s midday highs on late-day profit-taking. Futures rose quickly following the opening bell on support from Friday’s neutral Cattle on Feed Report and last week’s strong cash cattle market which averaged $107.91/cwt per USDA.

George Henderman recognized for Distinguished Service to Farm Bureau

George Henderman of Bullitt County has dedicated his life to his family and farm while also serving his local Farm Bureau organization and his community in a multitude of capacities. Because of that service, Henderman has been named winner of the 2016 Distinguished Service to Farm Bureau Award and honored at Kentucky Farm Bureau’s (KFB) 97th annual meeting at the Galt House Hotel.

Hardin County farmer Ray Allan Mackey has been named winner of Kentucky Farm Bureau’s (KFB) annual award for Distinguished Service to Agriculture. He was honored at the organization’s 97th annual meeting at the Galt House Hotel.

CBOT futures closed higher with support coming from better-than-expected weekly export sales reported for corn, wheat and soybeans this morning by USDA.  Cattle futures closed narrowly mixed despite a strong cash market Wednesday reported at $108-110.
