A feature report on the UK Dairy Judging team which recently took first place honors in the collegiate division of the All-American Dairy Show contest in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  Feldhaus visits with Matthew Borchers a grad student and coach of the team about the importance of the skills involved for the future careers of these outstanding students.

Feldhaus has one more feature with Marge Klindera of the Butterball Turkey Talkline, who today, even on Thanksgiving Day will be manning the phones to help out panicky turkey day cooks with problems they face in getting the big bird to the dinner table.  Klindera says it’s so much fun to do she doesn’t even mind working on the holiday.

Feldhaus provides a preview of the Ky Farm Bureau’s annual meeting next week in Louisville.  Farm group president, Mark Haney of Pulaski County is featured. He says farmers from one end of the state to the other have a say in the issues that will receive attention from the organization’s voting delegates. He focuses on the recent creation of the Kentucky Water Resources Board, a direct result of one of the group’s policy decisions.

Farmers in counties across the state will be voting over the next two weeks for member of their county Farm Service Administration (FSA) committees. These volunteer community leaders are instrumental in determining who qualifies for eligibility for a number of USDA programs from conservation to the farm bill safety net. Mitch Dunn, program administrator for the state FSA office is featured.

?CBOT futures closed higher and in the upper range as futures rallied throughout the day. A significant factor was a very strong persistent rally in crude oil futures.  Live Cattle futures closed higher in the April 2017 and beyond contracts. The nearby December LC closed steady as traders wait for cash markets to develop.

Corn and soybean futures closed higher but way below the day’s highs which came around midnight.  That’s when the soy complex soared on bullish palm oil production news.  Cattle futures closed higher as traders remain hopeful of higher cash markets.

Feldhaus provides a profile of the third of three finalists in the state’s Outstanding Young Farm Family Contest, Brad and Karen Hines of Hart County.  While Brad grew up a farm boy his career took a turn toward mechanics and farm and heavy equipment repair. But eventually, he got back into agriculture in a big way and discusses some of the practices and innovations that drew attention from the contest judges.
