The extension agents for agriculture in Hopkins and Muhlenberg Counties have joined forces to produce a safety video on the proper extraction techniques, and equipment needed, to dislodge farm equipment when it’s mired in a ditch or the mud. Hopkins County ag agent, Curtis Dame, has details and encourages all farmers to take a look and to be prepared for the worst.

A report with Ronnie Day, Executive Director of the KCTCS Fire Commission which just recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Ky Ag Department. Day says the two will work together to enhance various types of training, including ag related rescues for first responders across the state.

CBOT futures closed mixed again today but the soy complex reversed yesterday’s strong move higher. Today’s profit-taking shouldn’t be surprising after a 50-cent rally in four trading days. After Tuesday’s minor setback, cattle futures pushed higher again with the Live Cattle contracts trading to new highs for this September rally.

CBOT futures closed higher led by soybean oil and soybeans. The soy complex was supported by the Malaysian palm oil market and strong nearby demand for soybeans as harvest is just starting – and harvest may be slowed by rain. Cattle futures traded both sides of unchanged and closed lower.

CBOT futures closed mixed. Soybean futures closed slightly higher with support coming from the soybean oil market which rallied on rising palm oil prices. Live Cattle futures closed mixed with the four contracts through April 2017 settling between $107.25-107.90.

CBOT futures closed lower except for the soy complex. Corn and wheat futures were weighed on by disappointing weekly export sales reports this morning. Cattle futures closed higher with the October LC contract gapping higher; resistance comes in at 108.45, the August high.

The new EKU Farms Manager, Justin McKinney, talks about the team work involved to put on a joint EKU/UK regional field day, Sep 29, at their Meadowbrook Farm in Madison County. McKinney, who just joined EKU’s staff, says the cooperative spirit between the two universities is admirable and makes for a great line-up of talent for a tremendous program for the region’s farmers.

Kentucky’s Junior Chef competition, developed and coordinated by the Ky Ag Department’s Kentucky Proud program, has grown into a tremendous success. Feldhaus visits with program coordinator on the variety local volunteer helpers who make the teams possible, and on the lifelong skills developed by the youngsters involved.
