CBOT futures closed higher, led by soybean oil and soybean futures. Market support continues to come from strong export demand for soybeans and corn.  Cattle futures closed lower for the third straight day as traders doubt cash cattle prices will strengthen much.

CBOT futures closed mixed with minimal changes. Prices traded both sides of unchanged and corn/soybeans had relatively small price ranges.  Cattle futures closed lower as the negative sentiment continues to weigh on the market.

So far this year Kentucky Farm Bureau has issued over 700 “sub permits” for the taking of black vultures to reduce the loss of baby calves and other livestock to large flocks of black vultures.  In a joint U.S. Fish and Wildlife/Farm Bureau effort the farm group issued permits in 71 counties and is anticipating a resurgence of demand as fall calving season rolls around.  The farm group’s Joe Cain talks about the permitting process.

Semi-retired UK Soils Specialist, Dr. Lloyd Murdock, was recently named recipient of the highest honor awarded by the national association of extension agents.  Todd County Ag Agent, Curt Judy, comments on a few of the areas in which Murdock’s research had significant impact on both livestock and grain farmers in Kentucky, and even around the world.

Warren Beeler, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Ag Policy, comments on the recent grant of $5 million by the state ag development board to be used for farm loans.  He says this and other investments in the Ky Ag Finance Corporation has had tremendous economic impact, positively affecting hundreds of family farms in the state, particularly young farmers.

From deep fried candy bars to “Sweet Tater Supreme,” you can find total gastronomic delight at the Kentucky State Fair.  Fair board spokesperson, Amanda Storment has tried her fair share of diet-busting, deep fried offerings but even she has her limits. She also discusses some of the more traditional fare, like farm fresh pork chop and rib eye sandwiches and even Kentucky grown catfish.

CBOT futures closed mixed on a lack of significant market news.  Late Monday, USDA reported corn and soybean condition ratings remain very positive. Cattle futures closed higher led by the feeder market. Live Cattle were also supported by ideas the cash market will be higher on smaller market receipts.
