CBOT futures closes widely mixed, even within the soy complex. Live cattle closed higher while feeder futures finished in the red, pressured by higher corn prices. Lean hog futures closed sharply lower for a second day in a row.

CBOT futures closed mixed with some pretty wide trading ranges on early weakness and late strength. Cattle futures closed strongly lower with nearby Live Cattle futures down sharply – over $3.00/cwt. Lean hog futures closed sharply lower, pressured by the Live Cattle market and growing frozen pork supplies as China becomes less of a buyer.

Corn and wheat futures dropped around two percent today while soybeans finished near steady. Cattle futures closed strongly higher for a second day in a row with support from this week’s stronger cash fed market. Lean hog futures posted sizable losses (for a second day), pressured by disappointing pork export sales – a marketing year low of 12,900 MT (down 46% week/week).
