It certainly wasn’t the best weather to get the growing season off to a stellar start, but patient producers have weathered these situations before and are once again looking for a good crop year and praying for a great one.  

The days of tobacco being the king crop in Kentucky are in the rear-view mirror, but the once top crop still holds a place in Kentucky's diverse agricultural environment.

While the majestic horse farms of Central Kentucky are the most visible symbol of the state’s storied equine industry, these and all the other horse farms throughout the Commonwealth are real-deal working farms no matter what breed resides on each.

CBOT futures closed mixed with the major commodity contracts posting gains. Cattle futures closed moderately lower on fed cattle price concerns sliding boxed beef values. Lean hog futures closed moderately higher beyond the soon-to-expire May LH contract. 

When I was a young boy, my dad would take me around with him on the farm. And as I got older, I started taking on more jobs and more responsibilities. I’d be out milking cows before school and helping get other things done when I got home. 

CBOT futures closed mostly higher except for soybean meal which extended its ongoing downtrend to new lows. Live and feeder cattle futures closed narrowly mixed, pausing after two days of gains. Lean hog futures closed sharply higher on short-covering corrective buying in an oversold market.
