CBOT futures closed mixed with wheat again leading the way to the upside while soybean meal sold off more than 2%. Cattle futures closed higher with live cattle extending the 3-day rally started November 18; April and beyond LC contracts set new contract highs. Lean hog futures closed very narrowly mixed. LH continue to be weighed down by a weak cash hog market and declining pork cutout.

Most of the CBOT grain and oilseed contracts closed higher, lead by the KC and Chicago wheat markets. Cattle futures closed higher in follow-through buying off last week’s cash strength and bullish momentum. Lean hog futures closed higher on morning strength in the pork market offsetting cash hog weakness.

Farm Bureau: Survey Shows Thanksgiving Dinner Cost Up 14%

Enjoying Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends is a priority for many Americans, but paying attention to how the meal will impact the budget is also important. Farm Bureau’s 36th annual survey indicates the average cost of this year’s classic Thanksgiving feast for 10 is $53.31 or less than $6.00 per person. This is a $6.41 or 14% increase from last year’s average of $46.90.

Major CBOT futures closed lower and near the lows of the day. Early strength peaked around 9:00 am CT and it was downhill from there. December LC broke above its sideways channel; February LC gapped higher and made the highest close since September 1. Lean hog futures were slightly higher except for December LH’s $1.07 loss.
