In the late evening hours of Dec. 10, severe storms and four separate tornadoes touched down, killing 78 Kentuckians and leaving a widespread trail of devastation. The largest and most destructive tornado, which stayed on the ground to demolish anything in its path for more than 200 miles, originated in Arkansas, according to the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management.

The tornadoes that ripped through our Commonwealth on December 10, and into the wee hours of the next day, left a trail of destruction most of us have never seen.

CBOT futures moved sharply higher early this morning but reversed mid-morning, then moved lower to post sizable closing losses. Cattle futures closed lower after making new contract highs early in the session. Lean hog futures also closed lower after setting contract highs.

CBOT futures closed strongly higher, led by the soybean market. By the close, old-crop corn actually posted the strongest gains on a percentage basis. Cattle futures closed lower with nearby feeder futures hit by the CBOT rally. Lean hog futures closed higher with April-forward LH contracts setting new contract highs.
