American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall today met with Tatiana Clouthier, Mexico’s Secretary of the Economy, and Esteban Moctezuma Barragón, Mexico’s Ambassador to the U.S., to discuss a variety of trade matters, the use of technology to advance agriculture and the border crisis. Mexico is the third largest destination for U.S. agricultural exports.

CBOT futures closed lower to sharply lower on apparent profit-taking and technical selling. Cattle futures rallied for a second straight day on higher boxed beef values and strong weekly beef export sales and export shipments(marketing year high). Lean hog futures closed lower except for the August LH.

CBOT futures closed widely mixed but generally far below the day’s highs which came mostly on Sunday evening when the focus was on the weather. Live cattle closed narrowly mixed while feeder futures finished higher thanks to weakness in CBOT futures. Lean hog futures closed lower on profit-taking amid the risk-off trade caused by energy futures and the stock market.
