President Duvall Hosts Mexico Leaders for Wide-Ranging Discussion

American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall today met with Tatiana Clouthier, Mexico’s Secretary of the Economy, and Esteban Moctezuma Barragón, Mexico’s Ambassador to the U.S., to discuss a variety of trade matters, the use of technology to advance agriculture and the border crisis. Mexico is the third largest destination for U.S. agricultural exports.

CBOT futures closed lower to sharply lower on apparent profit-taking and technical selling. Cattle futures rallied for a second straight day on higher boxed beef values and strong weekly beef export sales and export shipments(marketing year high). Lean hog futures closed lower except for the August LH.

Ben Prevette from Hopkins County, Caleb Smithson from Butler County, Molly Sullivan from Taylor County, and Chris Thomas from LaRue County were all named finalist for the 2021 Kentucky Farm Bureau Discussion Meet following the preliminary rounds held during the Women and Young Farmer Leadership Summit in Covington, Kentucky this weekend.

CBOT futures closed mixed with little change for corn and soybean futures. Cattle futures closed higher, recovering some or all of Tuesday’s losses. Lean hog futures closed higher on stronger cash hog prices and pork cutouts.

Except for MGE spring wheat futures, the grain and soy complex posted higher closes with corn and oats leading the way. Cattle futures closed lower on pressure from weaker boxed beef values and rising corn futures. Lean hog futures closed higher even as the pork cutout weakened.

CBOT futures closed widely mixed but generally far below the day’s highs which came mostly on Sunday evening when the focus was on the weather. Live cattle closed narrowly mixed while feeder futures finished higher thanks to weakness in CBOT futures. Lean hog futures closed lower on profit-taking amid the risk-off trade caused by energy futures and the stock market.
