Live cattle futures closed slightly higher while feeder futures ended in the red on pressure from higher grain prices. Lean hog futures closed strongly higher with the August LH leading the way, given its discount to the CME Lean Hog Index.

The farm families of the Kentucky Livestock Coalition (KLC) encourage consumers to make meat the centerpiece of their meals this summer. The Coalition kicked off its Meat Me at the Table campaign today at White Farm in Lexington. Speakers at the event included KLC spokesman Warren Beeler, Energy and Environment Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Goodman, Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman, and Ag Commissioner Dr. Ryan Quarles, all of whom expressed their support for livestock and poultry producers here in Kentucky.

Thanks to rains over the 3-day weekend and wetter Corn Belt forecasts, CBOT futures closed sharply lower with corn and soybean oil futures settling down the daily limits. Live cattle closed narrowly mixed while feeder cattle soared higher in response to the limit-down corn move. Lean hog futures closed mixed with only the July and August LH contracts making positive closes.
