CBOT futures closed sharply higher to limit-up in old-crop corn and May soybean oil futures. Live cattle closed higher while feeder cattle closed mostly lower except for a couple contracts. Beyond the nearby May contract, lean hog futures posted modest gains near the high of the range.

CBOT futures closed sharply higher on continued strong cash fundamentals for corn and soy and aggressive fund buying who are adding to their huge long positions in corn and the soy complex. Cattle futures closed sharply lower, extending prices to levels mostly not seen since mid-January. Lean hog futures closed lower through 2021 and slightly higher in 2022 contracts.

CBOT futures closed mostly sharply higher for a second straight day; soybean and soybean oil futures have closed higher for 7 straight days (meal for 6 days). What was gained Tuesday was lost today as cattle futures closed much lower and near the day’s lows. Lean hog futures opened higher but closed mostly lower with the June LH leading the way down by $1.825/cwt.

CBOT futures closed sharply higher but well of the day’s highs. Cattle futures closed higher after testing yesterday’s lows. Lean hog futures closed sharply higher for a second straight day, with the May LH contract hitting a contract high.

Corn and soybeans closed strongly higher but mostly 4-5 cents below the highs. Cattle futures closed lower but well off the morning lows, resulting in mid-range settlements. Lean hog futures closed sharply higher, recouping most or more than last Friday’s losses.
