CBOT futures closed mixed with old-crop corn ending lower and soybeans and wheat posting modest gains. Cattle closed lower today, much like yesterday – with feeder futures losing more ground than live cattle. Lean hog futures closed sharply lower to down the daily $3.00 limit (expands to $4.50 tomorrow).

After trending higher in overnight trade, CBOT futures amplified the rally when trading resumed at 8:30 am CT, leading to sharply higher closes in most contracts. Cattle futures closed lower across the board with feeder futures hit the hardest due to sharply higher corn futures. Lean hog futures closed higher with the May & June LH posting strong gains.

CBOT futures had a “turnaround Tuesday” with most CBOT futures closing higher to sharply higher. After opening steady to higher, cattle futures closed lower with feeders posting bigger losses due to rising corn futures. Lean hog futures closed narrowly mixed as the market lacked direction.

CBOT futures closed steady to mostly lower, with sharp losses in corn, beans and wheat. Live cattle futures closed mostly lower while feeder futures were mostly higher. Beyond the expiring April LH contract, lean hog futures closed mostly sharply lower after starting the day higher making new contract highs.
