In a delayed reaction to Tuesday’s WASDE report, CBOT futures closed sharply lower in old-crop corn, soybean meal and soybean futures. Cattle futures closed lower on weakness in boxed beef values and a disappointing cash fed market. Lean hog futures closed higher on stronger cash hog prices and pork cutouts.

A Kentucky fifth grade teacher who uses agricultural themes to teach all subject areas has been selected as a 2021 National Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture Award winner. Kelly Gates, a fifth-grade teacher at Pride Elementary in Madisonville, KY, introduces agricultural themes, speakers, farm tours and special events to teach her students about seed germination and plant life cycles, colonial era homesteading and farming, hybridization of daylilies and international trade, among other activities.

CBOT futures closed steady to mostly higher and most contracts ended near the day’s highs. Cattle futures closed mostly higher today with the best gains in nearby feeder cattle. Lean hog futures closed higher, supported by strong cash hog prices and pork cutouts.

CBOT futures closed mixed and far below the day’s highs which were set when markets opened Sunday evening. Cattle futures closed higher with Live Cattle adding to Friday’s gains. Lean hog futures closed only slightly higher despite a soaring pork market in the morning.
